Session Description: Copyright clearances can be a complicated undertaking with lots of moving parts.  As museum store professionals, navigating the process of art licensing can be intimidating. This session aims to demystify copyright so that you are able to pursue artist collaborations with confidence. Artists Rights Society's merchandise licensing team will guide you through how and when to clear copyrighted work and the benefits of copyright to artists and the arts at large. Attendees will come to understand how to pursue commercial licensing projects that thoughtfully engage with artists' works and legacies. Together, we will brainstorm how to create beautiful and successful products that your visitors will love as tangible mementos of their museum experience.  Let's think beyond the postcard!

Arts licensing can be so much more than prints and paper products. Merchandise that creatively ties in with your collections or exhibitions will not only expand your range of available products but also attract new customers. We'll share examples of licensed merchandise that resonated with both museum store clientele and the artists themselves. Attendees will leave feeling empowered to create artist-approved products that your museum-goers will cherish while increasing the bottom line.
